Stuart Hough, MD
Ramani Peruvemba, MD
Lisa Janssen, CRNP

Our provider team consists of Stuart W. Hough, M.D.,  Ramani Peruvemba, M.D., and Kathryn Davidson is our practice administrator. Other members of the clinical staff are Certified Nursing Assistants and all are certified in Basic Life Support, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and other emergency procedures.

Our doctors are fellowship-trained in interventional and medical pain management, with certification from the American Board of Anesthesiology. They are active in the American and Maryland Societies of Anesthesiology, American Pain Society, North American Neuromodulation Society and American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Management. Their focuses are disorders of the neck and back, neuropathic pain and cancer pain. Specific areas of interest are spinal stenosis, herniated discs, complex regional pain syndrome, and chronic pain after spinal surgery. They employ minimally invasive treatments including epidural injections, radiofrequency nerve ablation, discography, spinal cord stimulation and spinal pain medication pumps.

Stuart Hough, M.D.

Stuart Hough, M.D. received his bachelor's degree in Biology from Swarthmore College in 1989. He studied medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, and was awarded his M.D. in 1993. He finished his residency in anesthesiology at Harvard Medical School/Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in 1997, where he was elected chief resident for 1996-97. He stayed at Harvard for a fellowship in pain management. After completing a 3 year obligation to the US Air Force, where he directed the pain management clinic at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Dr. Hough joined Pain Management Specialists in 2001.

Dr. Hough is board-certified in anesthesiology with a certificate of added qualifications in pain management from the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain, American Pain Society, American Society of Anesthesiologists and Montgomery County Medical Society. He has authored several textbook chapters on the treatment of pain in cancer patients.

Dr. Hough sees patients in our Rockville and Frederick offices, and has hospital privileges at Shady Grove Adventist and Frederick Memorial Hospitals. He provides consultation and treatment on a variety of pain conditions, with particular interests in the management of severe pain related to cancer and in the evaluation and treatment of spinal pain conditions.

Dr. Hough lives with his wife and son in Frederick, MD. He enjoys training and competing in running and the occasional triathlon, and is learning to sail.


Ramani Peruvemba, M.D.

Ramani Peruvemba, M.D. completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at Washington University in St. Louis. He graduated from New York Medical College in 1994. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology at New York Presbyterian Hospital in 1998. He completed his interventional pain fellowship at Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York in 1999. Since 2000, he joined Pain Management Specialists, with offices in Rockville and Frederick, Maryland. He is also a member of First Colonies Anesthesia Associates and provides anesthesia at Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, Maryland as well as Frederick Memorial Hospital, in Frederick, Maryland.

Dr. Peruvemba received his Board Certification in Anesthesiology in 1999. He received added qualifications in pain management from the American Board of Anesthesiology in 2000. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, Maryland Board of Anesthesiology, and the international spinal injection society. He currently serves as President of Pain Management Specialists, a group of physicians trained in interventional pain management, who own and operate Comprehensive Pain Management Center.

Dr. Peruvemba treats a variety of chronic and acute pain disorders. His focus is on disorders of the spine. Specific areas of interest include spinal stenosis, herniated discs, complex regional pain syndrome, and post herpetic neuralgia. He has expertise in both the pharmacological and interventional treatment of pain disorders. He is well trained in all interventional pain modalities, including, epidural injections, facet injections, radiofrequency techniques, discography, implanted spinal cord stimulators and pumps, and minimally invasive disc decompression.

Dr. Peruvemba currently resides in Vienna, Virginia with his wife and son. He enjoys running, biking, swimming, basketball, and golf. He is an avid guitar player and is a member of a local music group that performs at local events.


Lisa Janssen, CRNP

 Lisa Janssen, CRNP received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN. She practiced nursing at The George Washington University Hospital where she was a Surgical Nurse and Pain Management Mentor. Subsequently she obtained a Masters in Nursing from George Mason University in collaboration with George Washington University School of Health Sciences. Lisa has been a Registered Nurse for ten years with the last six years in Advanced Practice as a Pain Management Nurse Practitioner.

She is Board Certified in Adult Health and Pain Management. She is a member of the American Society of Pain Management Nurses and the American Nurses Association. As a Nurse Practitioner, she treats a wide variety of chronic pain conditions. Her approach to treatment of chronic pain is by means of a comprehensive approach that may involve medication, injections, therapy and other modalities.

Lisa sees patients in our Rockville and Frederick offices. She is skilled in streamlining medication management. This includes extensive knowledge and experience with pain management regimens. Patients referred primarily for medication management are scheduled with her.

Lisa currently lives in Chevy Chase, MD with her husband. They travel back to the Chicago area often to visit her family.
